Zsa Zsa Gabor "Unresponsive," Publicist Says
NEW YORK (CBS) Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday after her husband found her "unresponsive," her publicist told media outlets.
John Blanchette said Prince Frederic Von Anhalt called 911 after finding his wife, and that she was being taken to UCLA Medical Center.
According to reports, Gabor, 93, was given last rites by a priest in a hospital over the weekend of Aug. 14, after undergoing a series of setbacks following hip replacement surgery.
Gabor broke her hip on July 17 after suffering a fall in her home while watching television.
The actress reportedly decided to spend her final days at home after refusing to have more surgery.
Doctors wanted to perform surgery on her liver that would give her a 50-50 chance of survival, but Blanchette said Gabor and her husband decided "she wanted to spend her final days at home," according to MSNBC.
"Frederick said he did not want to torture her anymore," Blanchette said. He added that the star, who has been a Hollywood fixture for 60 years, "is in and out of consciousness."
Gabor is the only survivor of the trio of acting Gabor sisters (Eva died in 1995 and Magda in 1997). She has rarely been seen in public since she was partially paralyzed in a 2002 car accident. She also suffered a stroke in 2005.
Gabor appeared in more than 30 films throughout her career, including "Moulin Rouge," "Lili" and "Touch of Evil." She also appeared on TV specials and game shows, and as a guest on several television series, often playing herself.
"She had a great run," Blanchette said, according to the report. "She's 93. She knew five presidents ...she knew kings and queens, celebrities."
Gabor was married nine times and has one daughter, Francesca Hilton. She and von Anhalt have been married for 24 years.
