Xbox "720" rumors circulate, say hello to Blue-ray, Kinect 2

Microsoft

(CBS) - Will the next Xbox video game console block used games from being played? If rumor has it, legacy games might be left in the dust.

New reports from video game sites IGN and Kotaku say the next Xbox will add a Blu-ray player, Kinect 2 and a fall 2013 release date.

"I've heard from one reliable industry source that Microsoft intends to incorporate some sort of anti-used game system as part of their so-called Xbox 720," said Kotaku editor Stephen Totilo. "My source wasn't sure how Microsoft intended to implement any anti-used game system in the new machine."

If it's true that Microsoft plans to drop support of disks that would create all sorts of problems for Xbox 360 owners.

According to Totilo, a source close to the matter says Microsoft is planning to ship the next console with a new version of Kinect. The Kinect peripheral is a sensor-based control system that reads a users body motion for directions.

IGN reports the new console, which some unofficially call the "Xbox 720," will be six-times faster than the Xbox 360. Other rumors include a software development kit release in August.
