Would-Be Wyoming Senators Make Bids
The applications are in and now the Wyoming Republican Party must narrow down the choices for the next senator from the Cowboy State to replace Sen. Craig Thomas, who died earlier this month.
Thirty-one contenders threw in their hats, including a surgeon, minister, rancher, and radio announcer, along with the predictable slew of lawyers.
Many already hold positions with state government or within the party, but others have absolutely no political experience.
The vice president's wife, Lynne Cheney, who was rumored to want the position, did not apply.
The Republican Central Committee will vote for three of these candidates on June 19 for the governor's consideration. As U.S. News reported, Democratic Gov. Dave Freudenthal will have the final say, though he must choose from among the three names submitted.
