Women of many words on Twitter
It's politically incorrect to suggest women have a problem with brevity. But former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will probably get away with the comment, since she tweeted it about herself.
Albright (@Madeleine) was responding to a tweet from U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power (@AmbassadorPower), welcoming her to Twitter.
Power called Albright "a consummate diplomat - as graceful as she is tough."
Power also said she's looking forward to seeing Albright translate her knowledge and experience into thoughts limited by Twitter's 140-character maximum.
Albright responded to Power saying "we are both women of many words (& ideas). Notice she skillfully used the ampersand to save herself two characters in place of writing "and."
But Albright finished her thought about women of many words by tweeting: "Brevity can sometimes be a challenge."
- U.S. doesn't have to trust Russia on Syria, Albright says
- On her first day at the U.N., Samantha Power steps into disarray
It's the kind of crack that could have been a career-ender if a man had tweeted the same thing.
I find brevity just as difficult.
Later, Albright tweeted that she's delighted to be on Twitter, but now - "we just have to figure out how to get H Kissinger on board," a reference to the 56th Secretary of State - Henry Kissinger. Undeniably a man of many words.
