Woman tasered for attempting to buy too many iPhones
A woman was tasered at a mall over what appears to be a misunderstanding of Apple's limit on iPhone purchases.
CBS Boston reports that Xiaojie Li bought two iPhones at an Apple Store in Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, N.H. and wanted to buy two more. Li was denied in the store because she reached the limit on iPhone purchases at that particular store, so she ordered them online for an in-store pick up.
When Li attempted to pick up her phones, a manager told her to leave the Apple Store, but Li says she did not understand. Police tried to escort her from the store, but Li reportedly refused to go and resisted arrest.
Police say they gave her 10 minutes to leave and then used a stun gun, or taser, to subdue her.
"They threw her on the ground, they threw her around, they bruised her all over the place, they handcuffed her way too hard," Li's fiance John Hugo told CBS Boston.
Police maintain they were not using excessive force because they gave her 10 minutes to comply with their requests.
"For whatever reason the store didn't want her there," Nashua police captain Bruce Hansen told CBS Boston. "And this time of the year, you got to do something pretty extreme to want a store owner to not want to do business with you."
Raw video of the incident was posted on YouTube. The sound of Li screaming could be heard throughout the mall.
Li has hired a lawyer to fight charges against her, CBS Boston reports.
Apple previously had a limit of two phone purchases per customer; however, MacRumors reports the limit was lifted in early December.
Apple has not commented on this particular case.
