Texas police taze woman after "suicide by cop" attempt

HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas - Deputies used a stun gun to subdue a 53-year-old woman who walked into the Hidalgo County Jail in Texas brandishing a BB gun, asking authorities there to kill her, reports the McAllen Monitor.

Surveillance video shows Marisela Martinez Zamora walking into the jail's public area Tuesday, throwing $93 she allegedly stole from a nearby bail bonds business and attempting to flip over a bench, according to the paper.

Several people in the area are seen fleeing.

Sgt. Steve Cortez, who deployed the stun gun on on Zamora, told the paper the woman never pointed the weapon at anyone during the incident and said deputies were not aware the weapon was a BB gun during the encounter.

"She just kept asking them to kill her," Cortez said.

Authorities reportedly described the incident as a failed "suicide by cop" scenario.

Zamora is charged with making a terroristic threat and armed robbery.

Investigators are working to determine what led to the incident, which occurred at the jail where Zamora's daughter is incarcerated, according to the paper.
