Woman arrested in boy's death pregnant, released from jail

SPRINGDALE, Ark. -- A woman accused of helping cover up the killing of 2-year-old Searcy boy Malik Drummondhas been released from jail because she is eight months pregnant.

The Searcy Police Department says Lesley Marcotte was released after she was arrested Thursday on a charge of hindering apprehension and prosecution. No attorney information is listed for Marcotte.

Documents released Thursday say Marcotte told police Malik's father, Jeffery Clifton, had beaten Malik on Nov. 20, 2014, which led to fatal injuries.

Malik was reported missing three days later.

Marcotte says Clifton, her ex-boyfriend, planned the fake disappearance story and threatened to implicate her if police were contacted.

The Daily Citizen reports that what are believed to be Malik's remains were found Wednesday in a rural area about 50 miles northeast of his father's home.

Clifton was arrested on charges of capital murder and abuse of a corpse.

Marcotte is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 5.
