Woman, 97, killed in apparent Thanksgiving home invasion

NANTICOKE, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police say a 97-year-old woman was killed in what appears to be a home invasion and robbery in Luzerne County. Troopers identified the victim as Gertrude Price of Nanticoke.

Investigators said the elderly woman was discovered around 10 a.m. Friday by family members, who came to check on her when she wasn't answering the phone. Police say neighbors noticed that Price's house lights were on around 11 p.m. Thursday. Neighbors say that's highly unusual, so investigators believe the crime happened late Thanksgiving night.

An autopsy will be conducted on Saturday.

Authorities declined to provide additional details because an investigation is underway.
