Wizard Wannabe Burned by Toxic Wand

Authorities say a 10-year-old Pasco County boy was seriously burned when he and two friends tried to make a magic wand out of a stick, gasoline and bug spray.

The sheriff's office reports that the three boys were playing "wizards" Saturday when they began casting make-believe spells on a chicken. While trying to make the wand, one of the boys kicked over a small bucket of gasoline. Another boy then lit a match, and a spark hit the spilled gasoline. The flames caught the boy's leg on fire.

The boy's mother heard him screaming, but he managed to put the fire out by rolling around on the ground.

The Tampa Tribune reports the boy was burned on his legs, stomach and chest, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

He was taken to a Tampa hospital by helicopter. He was still in serious condition Monday.
