Witness: Before Texas teen died, he described his shooter
PLANO, Texas - A North Texas teen who was gunned down last Thursday was able to give a brief description of a suspect, as well as a vehicle, before he died, according to a witness who spoke with CBS DFW.
Monty Payne, an 18-year-old Plano man with dreams of becoming a recording artist, was killed while standing in front of his friend's home, according to Herb Harmon, the friend's father. Harmon said Payne came by around 7 p.m., but Harmon's son wasn't home.
Payne had just stepped outside for a few minutes when Harmon heard a gunshot. Soon Payne rushed back inside bleeding.
"The first thing that was in my mind, is the suspect was going to come in the house and try to finish off the job," said Harmon, who rushed Payne to a hospital.
But the suspect fled and Payne gave police a limited description of the shooter, according to Harmon. Payne also mentioned seeing a white pickup truck that may have come from the alley behind Harmon's home.
Police have not released the description of the shooter.
Harmon said Payne was a popular young man, whose friends want him remembered for the promise he showed.
"He had a great career, a great life ahead of him. I mean he was only 18-years-old. Good kid, and unfortunately, he just ran into the wrong person," Harmon said.
