Wisconsin state trooper killed by bank robbery suspect

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Wisconsin state trooper shot and killed Tuesday in an exchange of gunfire with an armed robbery suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Trevor Casper, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

According to CBS affiliate WDJT, around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Trooper Casper was following a vehicle that matched the description of one used in a bank robbery in Marinette County. At some point gunfire was exchanged between the suspect, Steven Timothy Snyder, and Casper. Both died in the shootout.

Fond du Lac Police Chief William Lamb said at a brief news conference late Tuesday that no other suspects were being sought.

The Marinette County Sheriff's Office issued a statement saying authorities had been notified about 1:43 p.m. of a bank robbery in the village of Wausaukee. It said a man had fired one round from a handgun and robbed the bank.

People who live near the crime scene told WDJT that police instructed them to stay in their homes as tactical units converged on the area.

"We saw cop cars swarming and swarming," resident Larissa Rodriguez said. "My little brother lives in the complex right next to it. So we came out and saw everything surrounded."

"I had my daughter in the back seat and the cop had a gun and told me get back in the house, get back in the house," resident Ronald Hayes said.
