Win a Copy of Simplify Media -- and Reclaim Valuable iPhone Storage Space

I have a buddy -- let's call him Dave -- who's dying to buy an iPhone, but refuses to until there's a 64GB model. That's because he has a mammoth music library and insists on having it at his fingertips at all times.

Well, Dave, this one's for you. Simplify Media [iTunes link] streams your entire music library from your PC to your iPhone, thus allowing you to delete all those space-hogging MP3s from the latter. All you need is a 3G, EDGE, or Wi-Fi connection.

Though it originally required a jailbroken iPhone, Simplify Media is now a bona fide App Store app. After plunking down your $3.99, head to the Simplify Media site to download the necessary desktop software. It's available for Windows, Mac, and even Linux systems.

You'll need to create a Simplify Media account, which you can do right from the software. Once installed, it scans whatever music folders you specify and queues your tunes for streaming.

Then just leave your machine running and hit the road. When you fire up the Simplify Media app and sign into your account, you'll have complete access to all your music. You can browse the library by album, artist, genre, or song. Tap what you want to play and presto: The music plays, complete with album art and even song lyrics (which is pretty damn cool).

As you might expect, a Wi-Fi connection affords the best sound quality, though 3G ran it a close second when I had five bars. Even over EDGE, Simplify Media delivered surprisingly good sound, about on par with FM radio.

However, the app was frequently slow to make an initial connection, and sometimes it wouldn't connect at all -- though this might have been due to my frequent network switching. I also found myself wishing for a way to search my song library, though it's not like the iPhone lets me do this either (not yet, anyway).

Thought the connection glitches did prove frustrating, Simplify Media definitely lives up to its name. So what if your iPhone has only 16GB of storage or even 8GB? This app serves up limitless music from your own library.
