Who is Eric Cantor? Jeopardy contestants stumped
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) is a familiar figure in the halls of Congress but apparently not on the set of "Jeopardy."
The contestants in Monday night's episode of the game show were left stumped when given clues referring to the Republican leader (watch the video, via Politico, at left).
"Jeopardy" host Alex Trebek gave the three contestants this "answer" in the category of "112th Congress: "In 2000, this Virginian won his primary by 263 votes. Now he's House majority leader."
None of the players made an attempt to respond.
The majority leader probably isn't taking the lack of response to heart, given that his office excitedly tweeted about the Cantor clue this morning. Nor should Cantor take it to heart -- a poll from last fall found that four in 10 Americans can't even name the vice president.
Meanwhile, the "Jeopardy" contestants fared a little better when it came to naming House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. After one wrong answer, a contestant correctly named Pelosi as the "House minority leader [who] has routinely won 80 percent of the vote in her reelections to California's 8th District."
