What Was Bill Thinking?
In September, Hillary Clinton's campaign held a fundraising contest in which several lucky winner would be selected to watch one of the Democratic debates at the Clinton's home – with, of course, the former president. So, for last week's debate, three lucky winners and their guests gathered around the television with Bill Clinton to watch what would prove to be the liveliest exchange to date.
We'd love to see the reaction to the entire debate but the campaign has put up a short version of the evening – one which has been characterized by Clinton's camp as a "pile-on" affair with her at the bottom of the rhetorical heap. So, what was Bill thinking during the whole event? Thanks to the video, we get a bit of a peek.
Pointing out Hillary Clinton's response to the pointed attacks, B. Clinton tells his guests: "You notice she hasn't hit 'em back. She answers their charges but doesn't hit 'em back."
At another point, the former president says, "I think the country is screaming to get back into the solutions business." And, apparently at the end of the debate, Clinton tells his guests, "every time the election's about the politicians, you lose it and every time it's about the people, you win it."
