What Happened To Tina Yothers?

Although Tina Yothers spent seven years starring as Jennifer Keaton, the wisecracking little sister of Alex and Malorie on the hit sitcom Family Ties, starting in 1982, her aspirations were well beyond the studio set. She said she wanted to be "as big as Madonna."

"Right when the show ended I was asked, 'What are you going to do now?'" she remembers. "I don't know any 16-year-old that has their life planned out at 16, so it was kind of strange."

"As young as I can remember, I wanted to be a singer," Yothers said on The CBS News Early Show. "We were fortunate enough to work next door to the Solid Gold set and in the '80s that was the happening thing. They would have to drag me off the Solid Gold set to come back to reverse or to go to school. I would ditch school to watch whatever was performing that week on Solid Gold. It was great."

Even as a sitcom princess, Yothers kept close to her first love, music. She eventually fulfilled her rock 'n' roll fantasy in a 1987 episode where she actually sang on stage. Now she does it for a living, with her rock band Jaded.

Tina and her brother Cory formed the group in 1996. In 1999, they completed their debut CD and video, and are currently seeking a contract. But despite her musical aspirations, the blonde-turned-brunette hasn’t forgotten the people with whom she spent her childhood.

"They were just great. I loved them all," she says. "It's been a while since I have seen any of the cast members of Family Ties, but it's like any other job, or high school, or anything that you're a part of for a chunk of your life, when it's over, you move on to the next project and you have another group of people."

Family Ties is best known for the sardonic sense of humor and Republican rhetoric of Michael J. Fox's character, Alex. Now known for his work in the hit series Spin City, Fox has recently stepped in the spotlight to share with the public his battle with Parkinson's Disease. But regardless of how much time has passed, Yothers says he'll always be a brother to her.

"He's definitely one of the nicest people that I have ever had in my life," she says. "I love him tremendously...he's my brother. No matter how much time goes on between us and what we've done in our lives and what we will ever do, he's a family member."
