What About 'Diagnosis Murder'?
Diagnosis Murder is one of the most popular TV programs on CBS. Yet on Thursday night, there's no denying that millions of folks are gearing up to say sayonara to Seinfeld.
Correspondent Steve Hartman of CBS station KCBS-TV interviewed the people who work on Diagnosis Murder to find out if Seinfeld's competition means conceding defeat.
Series star Dick Van Dyke, for one, is resigned to the fact that Thursday night probably will not be his.
"That's what most of the fans have said. They will tape it. We have a small but loyal and honest constituency there," Van Dyke said.
The producers of Diagnosis Murder want audiences to know, before they change channels, what they will be missing.
"If anyone in America cares to watch, Dick Van Dyke will be running into Rob Petrie," said executive producer Nick Goldberg. That would be something quite unusual and he added "I don't think Seinfeld will run into Rob."
Rob Petrie was the name of Van Dyke's character in the '60s sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show. The older actor will encounter the younger through digital magic.
So what is the verdict? Well, the producers think that since the show appeals to a totally different audience, they may get the same ratings, despite all the Seinfeld hype.
