WATCH: Dunkin' Donuts worker throws coffee at would-be robber

(CBS) WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The phrase "wake up and smell the coffee" will have new meaning for one would-be robber in Connecticut, who got his fill of caffeine when a Dunkin' Donuts employee threw a cup - and then a pot - of hot coffee at him.

CBS New York reports authorities said the suspect pulled up to the drive-through window at a Dunkin' Donuts in West Haven on Saturday night, took out a $100 bill and asked for change.

When the worker refused and tried to close the drive-through window, the suspect declared it was a robbery and tried to climb into the store. The worker immediately tossed a cup of hot coffee on the suspect and then splashed him with a whole pot of joe as he retreated back into a white Ford Explorer and drove away (without asking for a refill).

He was still on the loose as of Tuesday night.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Haven police at 203-937-3905.
