Walter Matthau Hospitalized

Odd Couple and Grumpy Old Men star Walter Matthau, hospitalized nearly 10 weeks ago with pneumonia, is doing well, and should be going home soon.

"I saw him yesterday and he's fine," his agent Leonard Hershan said Monday. "He's recuperating. He should be going home very soon."

Son Charles Matthau referred calls about his 78-year-old father to Hershan.

The actor was taken to an undisclosed Los Angeles area hospital on May 16 complaining of feeling ill with a bad cough.

The elder Matthau recently completed work on his latest film, Hanging Up, starring Diane Keaton, Meg Ryan and Lisa Kudrow.

Last year, the actor reprised his signature role as the sloppy Oscar Madison for The Odd Couple II, playing opposite Jack Lemmon.
