(CBS/AP) - A Vietnam teen allegedly killed and robbed a 7-year-old girl, his neighbor, to fund his online gaming addiction, Vietnamese police say.

The 15-year-old boy was arrested a day after allegedly beating the girl's head with rocks and fleeing with her gold earrings, according to Police Capt. Kha Van Hoi in central Nghe An province.

The girl reportedly died of brain injuries four days after the incident.

The 15-year-old told police he planned to kill the girl to pay for computer games, Capt. Hoi said Tuesday.

According to the Associated Press, Vietnam authorities began to tighten restrictions last year on online gaming after a series of murders and robberies were reportedly committed by young people to fund gaming addictions. Past restrictions include limiting how late game centers can stay open and banning advertisement of online games.
