Video of Calif. student allegedly bullying blind teen leads to arrest
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.-- Police in Southern California have arrested a teen who allegedly bullied a blind student, before another student came to the victim's defense with a punch that was caught on cell phone video, reports CBS Los Angeles.
The video, which was recorded at Huntington Beach High School Wednesday afternoon and uploaded to YouTube, briefly shows a student hitting another student, who is reportedly blind, as several people looked on. A third student suddenly enters the frame and strikes the alleged bully in the head, knocking him to the ground.
The third student then yells at the attacker, who is still on the ground, "Trying to [expletive] jump a blind kid, bro?"
When the alleged bully's friends confront the third student, he yells, "He's punching a [expletive] blind kid, bro!"
As he walks away, he turns and says, "I swear to God, if you [expletive, expletive] with this kid again, I will [expletive] you up!"
The video has been watched hundreds of thousands of times on YouTube and various social media sites.
Thursday evening, the Huntington Beach Police Department announced that the alleged bully was arrested.
"The victim and suspect know each other and have a history of not getting along. Yesterday the victim walked past the suspect and they got into an argument," the department said in a statement. "At that time, the suspect punched the victim several times and that is when the third student intervened and struck the suspect to prevent any further attack on the victim."
The suspect faces a misdemeanor battery charge, and has been released back to his parents.
Police said the third student is unlikely to be charged.
