VIDEO: "Hobo Hero" Mike Scofield Jumps Gas Station Thug

NEW YORK (CBS) Surveillance video captured a homeless man's heroic attempt to stop a convenience store robber in Portland, Oregon.

Police said the hooded suspect walked into the Shell gas station convenience store on the morning of Jan. 25, according to . Video shows the store clerk ringing him up when, out of nowhere, the bandit reaches over the counter to grab cash from the register drawer.

But homeless man Mike Scofield wasn't having any of it.

Scofield attacked the suspect from behind. The pair wrestled all the way out the door.

"I smashed him four times... kicked him twice," Scofield told local station WVTM. "Didn't work, he still got away."

The hooded bandit got his fair share of licks on Scofield as well. By the end of the video, the intruder is pounding Scofield on the ground. But Scofield got right back up and chased after him.

According to police, the suspect is about six feet tall, weighs about 150 pounds and has a shaved head. Witnesses told police he had "squinty" eyes.
