The Daily Mail reports Beckham broke down in tears before accepting the award from friend and fellow designer Marc Jacobs.

"I'm so sorry for crying. I'm being so rubbish," she said.

Beckham, wearing a backless black gown, acknowledged the British fashion industry and business partner Simon Fuller before thanking her family: ""My parents, my kids and my husband. Without David I wouldn't have had the courage to do what I am doing."

'I am so nervous, this means so much to me. I am overwhelmed," she explained, according to the paper. "I was really trying to keep it together in the speech without bursting out crying."

Husband David Beckham was not on hand for the occasion - the LA Galaxy player is currently traveling with his team - but posted a message on his Facebook page about his wife's achievement.

"The boys and I are incredibly proud of Victoria after winning a prestigious British Fashion Award tonight," he wrote. "She has worked so hard and deserves all the recognition. It's amazing what she has achieved tonight, very special."
