U.S. Teens Arrested In Fatal Attack

German police are seeking murder charges against three American teenagers accused of throwing rocks from a highway bridge at passing cars on Sunday night, reports CBS News Correspondent Tom Fenton. Two people died in the attack, and the American teens under suspicion are believed to be children of American servicemen.

A 20-year-old woman was killed when a large rock smashed through her windshield. Her 75-year-old grandparents, who were riding in the car, were injured -- her grandmother seriously.

A short time later, a 41-year-old woman was killed when another rock from the same bridge splintered her windshield.

In all, six cars were hit by stones in a period of 15 minutes. Three people in the other cars received minor injuries.

Police have withheld the names of the three juveniles, but a neighbor from an American military housing compound said she knew them from school.

"They did not seem to be bad. They were kind of pranksters," said Tina Hundley. "They played jokes a lot, you know. But I never expected anything like this. I guess they just went too far."

Police believe the stones were taken from a nearby construction site and that the boys were part of a group that had been meeting regularly for the past month to throw rocks at passing cars.

U.S. Army authorities say they are shocked and deeply saddened and are cooperating with the German police. One boy who knew about the stone throwing but was not involved, has been released. The police say the other three have all confessed.
