After Barack Obama's people gave him the stiff arm last week (as reported here), the House Ways and Means chairman was quietly added to this afternoon's schedule at the Pepsi Center, as part of the Congressional Black Caucus 4 p.m. slot, which also includes Reps. John Conyers (D-Mich.), Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-Mich.) and Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.).
It's not clear what happened — but perhaps not coincidentally, Rangel has been telling reporters in Denver that he plans to vote for Obama and not Hillary during tonight's roll call.
Or it might just be that all the Rangel-snubbing had gone far enough — what with the DNC returning $100,000 from his PAC, according to Maggie Haberman and Brendon Scott of the New York Post. The DNC says it was just a pro forma refund mandated by their Obama-ordered PAC ban. But that's not how Charlie's supporters saw it.
