Unplugged: Is The Secret Service Cutting Corners?

After speaking with over 100 current and former Secret Service agents for the book, Kessler claims that the agency has cut corners in recent years, and he says that could endanger President Obama and Vice President Biden.
Kessler mentioned one instance on "Washington Unplugged" that involved Vice President Biden throwing out the first pitch at the first game of the Baltimore Orioles' 2009 season. The Secret Service did not screen any of the 40,000 fans in attendance.
According to Kessler, changes within the Secret Service began when the Department of Homeland Security took over.
"They just lost their standards," Kessler told Chaggaris. "Not only are they not doing magnetometer screening, but their firearms aren't up-to-date. They don't even do physical training."
Kessler also claims that death threats on Mr. Obama are up as high as 400 percent. While the Secret Service says this number is exaggerated Kessler stands by his findings.
"Certainly it fluctuates somewhat, it's definitely in that range. [The threats] tend to be more racially motivated," he said.
The Secret Service has denied the claims in Kessler's book. "Any suggestion that the Secret Service has 'cut corners' in carrying our protective mission is just false," a statement said.
