Underwater scooter aimed at your inner James Bond
With summer vacation around the bend, we chanced upon this video of an intriguing aquatic device called the HydroBob. The Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. company, which offers rides on the HydroBob for $25 an hour. describes the device as an underwater scooter. Maybe a better way is to think of what you might get by crossing a jet ski with a scuba device. (Sea Segway, anyone?)
The big attraction here is that the prospective recreational user doesn't need to know how to swim. The scooter is powered by a motor and users only need to pop their heads into a bubble helmet that receives a continuous oxygen feed. Unfortunately, the device isn't yet ready for deep ocean treks - though who knows: maybe, one day. In the meantime, you can pretend at being an extra in the underwater finale of the Bond action flick "Thunderball."
