UFC fighter arrested after SWAT standoff in Fla.

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. - An Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran fighter was arrested Thursday just before midnight  after he allegedly threatened a group of people at a jiu-jitsu school and then barricaded himself in his South Florida home, reports CBS Miami.

Thiago Silva, 31, is being held without bond at the Broward County Jail on charges including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest without violence, and two counts of commit/attempt specified felony that could cause death, according to the station.

Authorities received a call at 7:45 p.m. Thursday after Silva allegedly threatening people at the jiu-jitsu school in Oakland Park. No one at the school was injured.

After that, Silva went to his home and locked himself inside, according to the station. The Broward Sheriff’s Office deployed a SWAT team to the area and set up a perimeter around the home. Silva was eventually talked into surrendering, reports the station.

UFC officials released a statement saying they were made aware of the situation involving Silva and they are in the process of gathering facts.

Silva fights in the UFC's light heavyweight division and trains in Boca Raton, Fla. The Brazilian fighter has been suspended twice since 2011 for failing drug tests, reports CBS affiliate WPEC.
