Turmoil At CHC Institute, New Document Reveals
Remember earlier this year when Rep. Joe Baca fended off a coup attempt and held on to his post as chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus? New details of that fight have now emerged in the form of the minutes from a Feb. 28 Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) board meeting. The minutes clearly show board members divided into two camps over whether to wave a 7-day waiting period and elect Baca chair immediately.
Team Baca appears to have been led by Rep. Ed Pastor (D-Ariz.) with some help by David Lizarraga, president of the The East Los Angeles Community Union. Their opposition is AFL-CIO vice president Linda Chávez-Thompson, Rep. Hilda Solis (D-Calif.) and Tom Acosta.
