Tsunami-damaged Hawaii hotels close temporarily

HONOLULU - The Four Seasons Hualalai and Kona Village Resort hotels on the Big Island are temporarily closing due to damage caused by Friday's tsunamis.

KITV reported Monday waves damaged about 12 rooms and suites at the Four Seasons Hualalai. The tsunami also dragged debris and sand into the bar, pools and other areas of the luxury hotel.

The Four Seasons Hualalai plans to reopen in one week on March 21. It has moved guests to other Four Seasons properties on Lanai, Maui and to other hotels in the meantime.

A message on the Kona Village Resort website says the hotel sustained some water damage, and its phone lines are down. Kona Village didn't say when it expects to reopen.
