TSA says man with 13 knives tried to board flight at DC-area airport

(CBS/AP) LINTHICUM, Md. - A man tried to board a Maryland-to-Minnesota flight last week with 13 knives in his carry-on luggage, the Transportation Security Administration says.

TSA officers said they found the knives, including switchblades and a butterfly knife, in the luggage of 25-year-old Amr Gamal Shedid of Baltimore at the Thurgood Marshall Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

TSA spokesman Kawika Riley says an officer operating an X-ray machine at the airport noticed something suspicious in Shedid's bags. Sgt. Kirk Perez, a Maryland Transportation Authority Police spokesman, says Shedid told investigators he collects knives.

Shedid has been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, interfering with security procedures and having an unauthorized weapon in an airport.
