Troubled rocker Jani Lane found dead in LA hotel, say police

(CBS/AP) LOS ANGELES - Troubled rocker Jani Lane, the ex-lead singer of the "hair metal" band Warrant, has been found dead in a hotel in Los Angeles, according to police.

Investigators says the 47-year-old's body was found Thursday in a Woodland Hills hotel. According to celebrity gossip site TMZ, police have not released a cause of death.

With his long blond hair and tight leather outfits, Lane embodied the excess of 1980s, hair metal rock bands.

He joined Warrant in 1984 and had an on-and-off relationship with the band. He left the group in 1992 before returning and quitting again several times.

Warrant shot to fame in 1990 for its album and iconic music video "Cherry Pie."

In recent years, he appeared in VH1's "Celebrity Fit Club" and made news for a drunken driving arrest. TMZ reports that he spent 120 days in jail in 2010 for a DUI arrest, which was is second in two years.

He is survived by two daughters from two previous marriages.
