Tribeca To End In "Ruins"

The Tribeca Film Festival will close this year with a special presentation screening of the comedy "My Life in Ruins," the festival announced Wednesday.

The film, starring Nia Vardalos ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding") will be shown on May 2, 2009, the last night of the festival. Several cast members will be at the screening, according to a statement from TFF.

Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, said in the statement, "This year's festival has a number of fun and light-hearted films for our audience to enjoy. We are delighted to bring them another crowd-pleasing film, "My Life in Ruins," to celebrate our closing night."

The movie centers around a woman, played by Vardalos, who works as a travel guide in her native Greece while waiting to land her dream job. As she opens the eyes of a gang of tourists to her country, she, too, starts to see the world in new ways.

Richard Dreyfuss, Rachel Dratch and Alexis Georgoulis also star in the film.

Donald Petrie, the director of "Ruins," which had its premiere this week in Athens, is "thrilled" about the screening.

"I can't think of a better launching pad for our film," he said.

The Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 22 to May 2, 2009. "My Life in Ruins" opens in theaters on June 5.
