Trayvon Martin's parents, supporters, to attend candlelight vigil in NYC marking the teen's death
(CBS) - The family of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old shot by a Florida neighborhood watch volunteer last year, is marking the anniversary of his death with a candlelight vigil in New York City, reports CBS New York.

Martin's parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, are scheduled to take part in an event at Union Square Park Tuesday evening. A moment of silence is scheduled for 7:17 p.m.
Martin was shot and killed George Zimmerman in Sanford, Fla., after the two got into an altercation in the gated community where Martin was visiting his father. Zimmerman called police from his car when he saw Martin,clad in a hooded sweatshirt, walking home from a convenience store and thought he looked "suspicious." The two fought, and Zimmerman claims he shot the unarmed teen in self-defense.
Zimmerman was not arrested immediately, spurring a national outcry over issues of race and "stand your ground" self-defense laws. People marched in cities across the nation demanding Zimmerman's arrest, often wearing hoodies as a protest symbol.
Zimmerman now faces second-degree murder charges in Martin's death. He is scheduled to ask a judge to dismiss the charges under "stand your ground" on April 29. If the judge declines, his trial is set to begin in June.
