Train fatally strikes person on tracks in Northern California

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- A person was struck and killed by a train on the tracks in Northern California Thursday morning, according to the transit agency.

The gender and identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification. 

CBS San Francisco reports Caltrain No. 225 was heading north when it struck a person near the Lawrence station, agency spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.

No passengers sustained injuries in the crash. 

The train has been released by transit police.

The incident marks the seventh fatality on Caltrain tracks this year.
