Davis Guggenheim's "From the Sky Down'' details the Irish rock band's creative development and a pivotal career shift 20 years ago, when it showed a renewed sense of purpose in releasing the 1991 album "Achtung Baby."

The Edge and Bono joined director Guggenheim for two screenings of the film. Bono told the crowd before the first screening that the band is protective of its privacy and creative process, joking that if people "knew what went into the sausage, you wouldn't eat the sausage."

On the red carpet, frontman Bono spoke of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks and said he's "a very proud American on 9/11."

He says "it's just too big a moment in all our lives. Even if you're not American, everyone became an American that day."
