Last Updated 3:29 p.m. ET

NEWBERRY, S.C. — The National Weather Service has cancelled a tornado watch for most of the Midlands except for two counties, as voters across South Carolina cast their ballots in the Republican presidential primary.

The watch now only is valid for Aiken and Orangeburg Counties until 8 p.m.

CBS Affiliate WLTX chief meteorologist Jim Gandy said that thunderstorms will persist for the remainder of the afternoon. People in the Midlands could see high winds and possibly isolated tornadoes.

The polls close at 7 p.m. The watch lasts until 8 p.m.
