Tornado tears through Philadelphia businesses

PHILADELPHIA - Weather officials have confirmed that it was a tornado that descended on a northeast Philadelphia block on Wednesday afternoon, tearing part of the roof off a beer distributor and bar and restaurant and demolishing a car repair shop.

Fire officials were called shortly before 2 p.m. about the damage that the National Weather Service says was caused by an EF-0 tornado.

No serious injuries have been reported

Gloria Deckard of the Beer Hut store told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the place was totaled. She says it's been there since 1974.

The winds also brought down the roof of R&R Car Repair next door. Benny the Bum's Crabhouse bar and restaurant also lost part of its roof.

The southeastern Pennsylvania chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting four residents.
