According to the New York Magazine's Vulture blog,  "Usual Suspects" screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie is working on updating the script and Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Maverick.

McQuarrie emphasized in an e-mail to Vulture Tuesday  that there would be "no 'Top Gun 2' in which Maverick is not the starring role."

It's still unknown whether Val Kilmer will return as Iceman.

When MTV News asked Scott at the "Unstoppable" premiere if Kilmer and Cruise would reunite, he said, "I'm gonna withhold that information. I am [excited about it] too. I can't say anything. I'm talking with Jerry, and I'm going to withhold."
