Toddler Left Alone In Car So Mom Can Smoke Pot, Say Police
SHIRLEY, N.Y. (CBS/AP) A mother left her 1-year-old alone in a car for more than 40 minutes while she was in her home smoking marijuana, police on Long Island said.
Police said they got a call around noon Monday about a toddler alone in a car parked in front of a home in Shirley, about 70 miles east of New York City.
When they arrived, they say they found the boy in the backseat and the child's mother, 43-year-old Karen Edelmann, in her house smoking pot.
Edelmann was arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, marijuana possession and resisting arrest. She was awaiting arraignment.
The child was released into the custody of his father and Child Protective Services was notified.
