"Tip jar bandit" arrested in Beverly Hills for at least seven heists

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - A 20-year-old woman nicknamed the "Tip jar bandit" has been arrested on suspicion of stealing money from restaurant workers in the Los Angeles area, reports CBS Los Angeles.

The arrest was made Thursday by Beverly Hills police after a witness called to report she was following a suspect who had stolen money from a tip jar on the counter of a coffee shop, according to the station.

Police responded and immediately detained Jessica Shub.

A preliminary investigation reportedly connected Shub to at least two similar tip jar thefts in West Los Angeles and four in Beverly Hills. Authorities believe she stole up to $80 during each crime, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Authorities have reportedly known Shub's identity since at least Jan. 20 but they were unable to arrest her because they were waiting for a judge to sign off on a warrant.

Shub was being held on commercial burglary charges.
