Tim Mahoney's Wife Files For Divorce

Terry Mahoney, wife of Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-Fla.) has filed for divorce, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Mahoney has admitted to at least two affairs since ABC News first reported last week that he had paid a former staffer/campaign aide, Patricia Allen, more than $121,000 to keep quiet about a romantic liaison between them, which ended with Mahoney firing Allen.

Actually, The Crypt can't describe this situation any more succincly than the Palm Beach Post, which noted that "Mahoney gave a series of interviews in which he acknowledged 'multiple affairs; while in office. He would not be more specific, saying only that 'multiple' means 'more than one.'"

Tim and Terry Mahoney were married for more than 22 years, according to the biography on his official House website, and they have a daughter named Bailey, a student at Oklahoma State University.

Mahoney is hurtling toward a crushing re-election defeat by Republican Tom Rooney, who is up at least 18 points in the latest poll. And now you can add potentially very expensive divorce proceedings on top of that. October 2008 has not been kind to Mr. Mahoney.
