(CBS) LOS ANGELES - Tiana Ricks, a 6-year-old girl, was gunned down in an apparent gang-related shooting in Moreno Valley, Calif. over the weekend and now well-known rapper The Game is donating $10,000 to cover her funeral costs, CBS Los Angeles reports.

"This very sad story hit me in a place nothing ever has," The Game, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, said, according to the station.

He said he reached out to the girl's mother, 24-year-old Marquia Macklin, after learning she was trying to raise money for her daughter's memorial.

On Saturday, Tiana was fatally struck in her shoulder outside a family member's going away party that she was attending with her father. The bullet reportedly traveled through her and hit her father, 26-year-old Tyrell Ricks Jr., in the leg, leaving him wounded.

Relatives said Tiana asked if her father was okay before gasping for breath and losing consciousness, the station reports. The 6-year-old later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital.

Two unidentified men are being sought in connection with the shooting.

"My sincerest condolences to you & your family Marquia. Glad that I could be of some help. I don't know what else to say, but @therobinhoodproject got you!" the rapper posted on his Instagram account, referring to a decision he made to distribute $1 million to people around the world every day until Christmas.

Macklin expressed thanks to The Game for his help on her Instagram account. She also thanked rapper Snoop Lion, who she said contributed to Tiana's fund through his foundation "No Guns Allowed."
