3 guards reported injured breaking up inmate fight
PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say three correctional officers were stabbed while trying to break up a fight between two inmates at a northeast Philadelphia prison.
Prison spokeswoman Shawn Hawes said the guards intervened in the fight at a housing unit at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center at about 2 p.m. Monday.
She said one correctional officer was left with serious stabbing injuries while another was stabbed in the hand; the extent of the third guard's injuries was unclear. All were taken to Aria Health-Torresdale for treatment.
Hawes said the suspect, who was pepper sprayed repeatedly, was also taken to the hospital, but his injuries were unclear. The other inmate was uninjured.
