BUFFALO, N.Y. (CBS/AP) Theodore Sypnier, a 101-year-old pedophile who was New York's oldest state prison inmate, has died of natural causes, according to corrections officials.

Authorities say Sypnier for decades molested children as young as 4-years-old in Buffalo, and later in the town of Tonawanda.

He was released from prison in 2008 after serving time on a 1999 conviction for molesting two young sisters but was returned behind bars in April after violating his parole by skipping sex offender classes.

The Buffalo News reports Sypnier was taken to the regional medical unit of a Hudson Valley prison when his health began to fail last week. He'd been housed at Groveland Correctional Facility in western New York.

The 101-year-old convict would have been eligible for parole in 2012.
