"The X Factor": Double elimination leaves four hopefuls
"The X Factor" pool continues to shrink, as two hopefuls were sent packing Thursday night, leaving four contestants to battle it out for a recording contract. The eliminations also mean one judge is out of the competition.
The night got under way with a performance by last year's champion Melanie Amaro, who performed her single, "Long Distance."
(Spoiler Alert)
Soon enough, it was elimination-time. First to go was CeCe Frey, who had the lowest number of votes. With Frey gone, mentor Demi Lovato has no contenders left in the competition. Lovato broke down in tears after the elimination was announced, and Frey tried to look on the positive side of things.
"I'm very proud of everything I've done on this show," Frey said after hearing the bad news. "I'm ready to leave it with this platform I've been given...I hope I taught everybody at home that you need to love who you are."
Then it came down to a battle between the next lowest vote-getters: Simon Cowell's girl group Fifth Harmony and Diamond White from Britney Spears' team.
For the sing-off, Fifth Harmony took on Mariah Carey's "Anytime You Need a Friend," and White sang Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance."
Aside from Spears, none of the other coaches threw their support behind White, which meant she was the next to go.
"I'm just thinking of Cher Lloyd," White said after getting the boot. "She finished fifth on her season, and look where she is."
Spears told White, "The world is yours."
The evening also featured a performance by pop singer Ke$ha.
