The Nominees: Amy Adams

Amy Adams still gets tagged with the "promising newcomer" title, even though she has made 10 movies in six years in Hollywood. Now, she has won critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination as Ashley, the small-town wife who is mesmerized by her big-city sister-in-law in "Junebug."

Adams won a Special Jury Prize at Sundance for the role in this small independent 2005 movie, and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award.

Picture her with braces on her teeth and you may remember her as the sweetly sexy nurse Brenda who wins the heart of youthful conman Frank Abignale (Leonardo di Caprio) in "Catch Me If You Can."

Adams grew up in Colorado and worked in a dinner theater in Minnesota before heading for Hollywood and a series of roles in teen movies. She's not taking anything for granted yet: "There's no halfway with me. I ain't got time to pretend I don't want a job," she told Selma Blair in a 2005 interview for "Interview" magazine.
