(WWNY) Cindy Intschert has been elected the first female district attorney. The acting D.A. won the republican nomination Tuesday night beating G.O.P. challenger Jim McClusky. Because there's no democratic opponent in November, Intschert becomes the county's top law enforcer.

Intschert's old boss gets a shot at winning a full term as Jefferson County Court judge. Jim King won the republican nomination over former St. Lawrence County public defender John Hallett. King, who was sworn in as acting county court judge in July, got almost 70% of the republican vote.

King will face Theresa Town Justice Kim Martusewicz, who won the democratic and conservative party nominations over former Jefferson County D.A. Gary Miles. Miles will be on the November ballot as a liberal candidate.
