Brush Fires Destroy Farm Land- While the east coast deals with wind and rain, the tri-state remains in drought conditions. And those conditions are leading to the development of brush fires. A fire early Thursday afternoon destroyed around 90 acres of farm land in Henderson County, KY forcing some evacuations. Another fire, this one in rural Warrick county broke out later in the afternoon and is responsible for the destruction of almost 200 acres. All Warrick County fire departments were involved as well as a number from Vanderburgh County.

Burkhardt Overpass Controversy- The controversy over right of way on Evansville's Lloyd Expressway and Burkhardt road has sparked political bantering between the candidates for mayor, Russel Lloyd, Jr, (R) and Rick Borries (D). It centers on whether county commissioners, including Borries, acted responsibly by not telling potential businesses about the state's plan to build an interchange at the Lloyd and Burkhardt. Plans to construct that interchange have been in the works since 1991, but now many businesses are wondering why they weren't informed of how the interchange would effect them.

Green Light For Conagra- Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon has given approval for Conagra to break ground on its proposed soybean processing plant in Posey County. This comes despite protests by the environmental group Valley Watch and a pending review to Conagra's air quality permit. Republican Congressman John Hostettler apparently asked the state to speed up the review because neglecting it could make the state seem unfriendly to business.

Can't Drive 55- The Indiana Department of Transportation is raising the speed limit on Interstate 164 effective Thursday. The change is meant to encourage commuters to use the by-pass around the city instead of driving Highway 41 or the Lloyd Expressway. The speed limit is increasing to 60 miles per hour between US41 and the Lloyd. The previous limit was 55.

Update- Floyd is wreaking havoc not only on the east coast, but also in cyberspace. Due to some technical (and natural) difficulties beyond our control, the rest of the WEVV web site is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience.
