'The Greatest' Graces Parkinson's Gala

Some of the biggest names in Hollyood turned out for a star-studded event in Philadelphia to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Event "The Greatest," former heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, couldn't resist an invitation by Michael J. Fox to join him at the fundraiser, reports Amy Kaplan of CBS radio station KYW.

Ali and Fox both have Parkinson's.

Other superstars including Maria Shriver, Bo Derek and Billy Baldwin packed the newly opened Kenneth Cole store where the party took place. Fox's former Spin City colleague Richard Kind and Senator Orrin Hatch, R.-Utah also attended. The event was sponsored by George magazine and the Creative Coalition.

Hundreds of people paid big bucks to rub shoulders with the superstars amidst shoes and handbags at the store. Hundreds more people lined the sidewalks outside the store.

"It was tremendous. I mean, obviously I'm exhausted," said Fox at his hotel, in the early hours of the morning after the event. "But it was a thrill, a thrill to have Muhammad there."

Fox said the event, which coincided with the GOP Convention in Philadelphia, was bipartisan because Parkinson's is a bipartisan disease.

"The real highlight was Muhammad and Michael appearing together publicly for the first time, united to do everything they can to try to speed the search for a cure," said Michael Claeys, senior policy coordinator for the Fox Foundation.
