The Grammys: And the nominees are...

The nominations for the 54th annual Grammy Awards are in, and leading the pack this year was Kanye West with seven nominations, including song of the year. Several of the nominees performed at an hour-long preview concert and there were a few surprising snubs.

Music journalist Joe Levy has the rundown on this year's best and brightest.

One night, one hour -- this year's Grammy galaxy was an eclectic mix: Everyone from the unique stylings of Lady Gaga to the bold moves of Rihanna, both in the running for best album of the year.

But it was Kanye West who got the most nods, followed closely by Bruno Mars, the Foo Fighters and British sensation, Adele.

There were no winners at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles Wednesday night -- just a chance for those nominated to remind The Recording Academy what they're made of.

But it was also a chance to remember past artists, like song writers Nick Ashford and Jerry Leiber, with a captivating tribute lead by Usher.

But beyond those who were nominated were those who didn't make the top list: Neither Taylor Swift, who won last year, nor Tony Bennett, who was the oldest person to ever hit No. 1 this year, made the cut for best album of the year.

Whatever suspense was built up will have to wait until February, when the winners of the 54th Grammy Awards are officially announced.

You can watch the Grammy's live Feb. 12th at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
